CHAPTER 11

Molly thanked the parking gods as she found a space directly behind the salon. She hurried out of her Lexus, pressed the fob to lock it, and rushed inside. The first thing she saw was Deirdre drinking a cup of coffee and reading Beach Cities Magazine while she was waiting for Molly at her station.

“Deirdre, I am so sorry. I was in a meeting, and then I had a phone call just as I was getting ready to leave. I apologize. I know how busy you are, and I certainly hope my being late won’t throw you off your schedule today.”

“Actually, it isn’t a problem. One of my weekly customers just called and cancelled. Bettina said she had an important meeting tomorrow and had to cancel her standing appointment to prepare for it. Sit down and let’s get started.”

Molly sat down and said, “The Bettina you mentioned wouldn’t happen to be Bettina Woods, would it?”

“Sure would. We all laugh in here about me cornering the market on restaurant reviews,” Deirdre said as she began to apply the blond product to Molly’s hair. Molly always told people she was a natural blond, but by that she meant it was a natural thing for her go to her hairdresser once a month to maintain that natural blond look.

“Well, you’re my hairdresser and Bettina’s. Who else comes to you from the restaurant review world?” Molly asked.

“The restaurant reviewer in your magazine, Stephanie Weston. And by the way, I have to tell you that I thought the review she did of Taste of Mexico was awful. I just read it while I was waiting for you and that seemed so unlike her.”

“Yes, I’ve talked to her about it, and she told me that the entrée she ordered was inedible and that there was no excuse for a restaurant that had been awarded a Michelin star to have a bad day in the kitchen, if that’s what it was.”

“I don’t know. I had the carne guisada dish at the restaurant, and it was the best thing I’ve ever had. A client gave me a gift card to go there for Christmas, and my boyfriend and I did. I’ll bet you’re going to get a lot of calls about that review,” Deirdre said.

“I already have,” Molly said. “As a matter of fact, Stephanie and I are meeting with the owner of the restaurant tomorrow.”

“Small world. His sister is a client of mine, and I’m sure she’ll have something to say about the review at her next appointment. Okay, you’re good for a while. The product just needs to do its thing to keep you looking beautiful. I’ll be back to check you when it’s time.”

Molly took her phone out of her purse and began to make notes on it regarding the upcoming meetings with the owner of Taste of Mexico and Bettina Woods. She continued to make notes while she waited the allotted time for Deirdre to work her magic.
